If you need lightweight, simple computing on the move then Asus EEEs are reputed to be very good.
A Linux PC can be made to work well together with a Windows desktop, and there are built-in tools to permit the two to communicate on a network, though these can be difficult to configure.
However, you really need to be sure that you can get along with Linux. It does pretty much everything that XP will but it does everything ~differently~, so there is a learning curve that some people give up on.
One thing that you can do is to find out which version of Linux is used on the Asus EEE, and try it out on a desktop PC (as a LiveCD which doesn't install anything on the PC) to see how you get on with it.0 -
Hi
I have the Asus eee pc 701 which was one of the first models they released. It is the same size as the one you have posted but has a smaller screen and lesser CPU.
The default Linux version is a custom Xandros, using the online forums it is possible to make it do everything that an XP computer can do and more. I use mine on the move everyday for the last 6 months or so and find it great. Mine came with 512MB Ram but I installed 1GB and it runs very fast.
I use it with a mobile broadband dongle (vodaphone) and could not live without it now.
There are a lot more models on the market now so it would be worth doing some real homework, and try to decide what exactly you want it for.The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
