Hi Wazza,
I would say it depends on who was supplying your guarantee, the manufacturer or Allders. Do you have any paperwork other than the receipt which would clarify this?
If it's the manufacturer the, obviously, you need to contact them. More likely, though, it was Allders. Companies House lists their administrators as Kroll:
http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/cfbbb1c0b9f0c5634d312fb0b5f691de//compdetails
Kroll's details are:
Regional Headquarters
Kroll Europe, Middle East & Africa
10 Fleet Place
London EC4M 7RB
United Kingdom
Phone: 44 (0) 207 029 5000
Fax: 44 (0) 207 029 5001
Email: krolluk@krollworldwide.com
I would get in touch with them and ask what arrangements have been made for honouring Allders' guarantees.0 -
rang the number given. unfortunately when allders went down their warranty became non existant :-(Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

Hmmm, that's really annoying to say the least.
As a double check to see what your rights are you could contact the government's Consumer Direct advice line.

Have you contacted the manufacturer?0

the extended warranty was offered by allders and not by the tv manufacturer. it's a hitachi tv by the wayProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

It may be woth contacting the manufacturer anyway to see what they say.
Also sometimes your credit card or bank offer extended warentees , have you checked thier terms and conditions.0 -
What happened in the end, Wazza?0

have checked my paperwork and found i have only few weeks to go before the warranty expires. the extended warranty was from allders and not hitachi.
the tv is behaving itself for the time being. probably use this as a valid reason togo for a plasma/lcd tv. :-)Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Although you say the extended warranty was "from Alders", was it not actually an insurance policy, underwritten by a third party?0

could not find details of any other party on the document. the phone numbers listed are for alders repair centre. had a chat with kroll who looked after alders closure. they said there was no third party etc that would honour the waranty
