My PS3 connection has virtually vanished! I spent the last few days upgrading security on my laptop installing AVIRA, MALWAREBYTES, SUPERANTISPYWARE and PCTOOLS FIREWALL (thanks RIK) Trouble is I now have no connection for gameplay on my PS3 I'm playing COD4 and the signal strength is the lowest, before all the security upgrades I had an excellent signal, Is there something blocking the signal to my console? I do hope I don't have to get rid of all my new security just so I can enjoy online gaming help please Mike

Changes to your security software can't affect the wireless signal strength. Try changing the wireless channel in the router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

still, the security software would only affect the computer not the PS3 or wireless signal strength.
have you tried adjusting the aerial on the router to see if that helps?0 -
erm
An ethernet connection wouldnt show a 'signal strength' surely? Thats only relevant to wireless. If your computer works fine fed off the same router then im slightly baffled as to whats happened. Are the cables in properly?
Or is it that you ARE connected wirelessly even though you have ethernet connected?:idea:0 -
When in a game each player has a signal strength next to their name, 1-4 bars, 1 bar being crappy and 4 bars the best.
Admittedly I always assumed mine should be 4 bars all of the time since I am connected by cable but that's never been the case, it's usually 3 bars which is acceptable.
Now it's 1 bar all of the time and I don't get it!
I have checked the cable and it's fine as I have not changed it.
RIK, I have turned off wireless on the router so I don't think it's relying on a wireless connnection.
Shall I reboot the router, PS3 or both and see what happens?

Nothing youve put on your computer will have any effect on the routers performance to your PS3
So by all means reboot everything:idea:0 -
also, dont forget that it may be a tempory glitch with sony's servers or your ISP0
