HTML question - looping images

Hi All,
Just getting into HTML, and basic programming. Currently writing my webpage, and want to know how I can get a folder of images to loop when someone visits the page.
Can this be done in HTML?

For example - I have 3 pictures, when someone is viewing my main page, I want the 3 pictures to loop, so that one appears then the next appears then the next appears ...like a slideshow!

I have no experience of java etc. so would like to do it in HTML if possible

You won't make it clean in HTML. A little embedded flash applet should be able to do the trick, with crossfades and all.

eek. I think one image alone it will be! a little flash applet sounds scary.

I would have thought you could get a ready designed flash jobbie from an open source place, ready designed for the purpose.

  • You could use paint shop pro's animated gif to rotate 3 images in turn repeated. Then in html simply point to it
    <IMG SRC="animation.gif">
  • A rotating image flash file is incredibly easy and quick to do. If you want one, PM me and I can throw it together for you for nothing. All I would need is the images, dimensions and delay between changes

The javascript option is cut and paste.
If you're learning HTML you will inevitably touch on basic javascript in the very near future and it is incredibly useful for all sorts of other stuff.
And if you want to change the images in your slideshow its a matter of changing the image name in your html code rather than asking someone else to rebuild a flash object for you.
    Easy Peasy

But with a flash object you can do a crossfade, somthing that is nigh on impossible otherwise. I find it offending to the eye to have the images change in a snap.

    Hi All,
Please to report back that I managed to make a small 15 image javascript slideshow, I'm thoroughly impressed with myself :D

I know what you mean about using a cross-fade timbim and will probably look into more advanced things as I learn, but for now I'm so pleased!

Thank you all for your help :)

Not a problem (its a tough 'cut & paste' job again I'm afraid ;)) -

Learning HTML and basic javascript online is easy because pretty much anything you want do has been done before and someone will make the code available to demonstrate it to you.
I'm not 'anti-flash' (some flash stuff is amazing) it's just that the sense of satisfaction you get from a successful bit of html/js code, that does what you want it to do, is perfect when you're learning.

    Well done JT6:T.
If you're feeling brave you'll have to post a link so we can have a look;)
