I think you are quite right, good for you for sticking to your guns

But OMG at her paying 3k for your sister's dress!! Isn't she going to do the same for you? ;) (Sorry, I'm just of the opinion that all kids are treated the same) That amount could cover the cars, the dress, AND the flowers :D

Unfortunately I am getting married in the middle of the credit crunch! They run their own business and unfortunately it's not doing so well just now as it was 3 and half years ago. But I know what you mean.

  • well done nat82.

My mum just gets worried that I'll leave it all to the last minute so just keeps checking that I've done things etc. This is my 2nd time round and my parents, his parents and OH and me are going in 3rds each for the whole thing. We reckon we can it for 6,300 which isnt bad. We are budgeting for 100 at the sit down £16/per head etc. My mum and I have already made the flowers (silk flowers - bouquets, buttonholes for men and mums and buttonholes for the congregation, and table decs). With the credit crunch and all that why pay for real flowers (unless you can get a really good bargain) and expensive food etc when its all gone after 8 hours!

Luckily my sister has bought me champagne for the toasts otherwise it would have been fizzy wine which wouldnt affect me as I dont drink. At the end of the day so long as you are happy thats all that matters.

Didnt mean to hijack your thread but just meant ot say well done and she will come round xx

    Stick to your guns Nat82.

I'm going through the same thing myself at the moment with my mother.

We can't afford to get married at home so we are going abroad to France just the two of us. My OH's family are so happy for us, but my mother is having a fit over it all.

I have had such a difficult time with it all, having just told them 2 weeks ago, but I have had enough now, and am just looking forward to it and planning it. Just keep remembering that it is your day and you can do whatever you want however you want.

She will come round to your way of thinking. Keep your head up and keep smiling!
