unable to pay car finance due to redundancy

I purchased a car through welcome car finance, I have found out today that I am to be made redundant on 23/02/2009. I bought car in august 08 I dont have income protection to cover repayments I have thought about ringing welcome up to see if they do payment holidays to give me a bit of time to see if I can find another job. Is there anyone out there who can give me a bit of advice.

Did you purchase the car from a ~Welcome dealership or did you buy the car of an independant dealership who arraned the finance through welcome for you?

There is little that can be done to challenge the loan and its agreement and I would therefore contact the lender and discuss the issue and see if they are prepared to assist.
