Usually this means it is overheating. Make sure the vents are not blocked. Probably worth giving it a vac with the vacuum cleaner, or perhaps buy a can of compressed air (Maplins usually carry this) and blast some of the dust out.

Random site on the internet (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/Xbox-360-error-codes.htm) suggests that 2 red lights may be caused by overheating. Head over to that page and see what it says but it's basically advising you to let it cool and keep it ventillated.

I think I'd leave it as is. The full red ring error is probably not far off. How old is it? Microsoft extended the warranties on them to 3 years for the red ring fault. See the link below for arranging a warranty repair when needed:

Exactly my point. Trying weird and wonderful cooling methods etc may help in the short term but (if it even works) may simply just stretch the life of the console to outside the warranty. Use it as it was "designed" to be used and when it fails get it replaced for free.0

Ours did this just recently, we plugged it straight into the wall rather than in an extension lead and it has been fine ever since. About a year ago it had all the red lights, Microsoft were great, they repaired it and sent it back pretty quickly.0
