Amex cashback question

My partner's had his Amex cashback card for 3 months so it has reverted to the lower, spending based rate. I've just received our new cards in my name.

Question is, if we cancel my partner's card now will we get the cashback we've accrued over the past 3 months and how?

DO NOT CANCEL - You will not get your cash-back until your 13th statement, and your account has to remain open until then.
