Would you bother the doctor for a fall?

I fell at work on Jan 22, I tripped over (my) open desk drawer, I fell VERY hard, it was like a giant hand pushed me. My first contact with the floor was my right knee followed in a nano second by the rest of me.
I was off on annual leave/holiday for 10 days after it happened (it happened just before I left for the day) & it took ALL of that to fell okish again.
My neck & shoulders were painful for a good 7 days.
I fell first on my knee & its still painful, I can't kneel on it & its still very tender in places (3.5 weeks on).
Its not possible I've fractured my knee is it?
Surely I would be in loads more pain?
If its just bruising then it will go away on it own.
Would you go & see the doctor, all he can do is send me for an x-ray & that means half a day messing about with the local hospital.
Since it happened I've felt a bit run down, in the 3.5 weeks I've had a boil on my ***, a stye in my eye, an ulcer on my tongue & an adscess in my tooth:eek:
It was a massive shock, I fell so hard, I felt like vomiting afterwards (I think that was a bit of shock).

My right knee has been a bit iffy anyway for a few years now (I put in down to years of waitressing & a bit of bar work before I got myself an education), I had a bit of cartlidge sort of stuff removed in a day surgery a few years ago, that was poking out & got tender when touched.0 -
No, I dont think youve fractured it - you wouldnt be able to walk
You have probably bruised it very badly. Go to the doctor anyway, just to check out if you have damaged the ligaments or anything.
Last year a kid on the pavement on his bike went into me. Its awful isnt it, as you feel like you are falling in slow motion. My arm hit the handle bars and it was literally black for weeks. I got some arnica creme for it. But I also fell on my knee and that was stiff for weeks. Trouble is, things that you could brush off as a youngster you dont get over so quickly as you ageI should imagine your body is still getting over the shock. But its still worth going to the doctor - please

This thread will probably be closed because we can't give medical advice (and rightly so) but I reckon if you have to ask the question then you should go to the doctors. That's what you pay your stamp for after all.
If it helps, DH had a bad fall on his knee when we were on hol and it did take him at least 6 weeks for it to stop feeling painful.0 -
A friend of mine is having alot of trouble with her knee, and she has been told by her consultant, that it has been broken at some point and healed. She didn't know she had broken it! So it must be possible(maybe hairline fracture scenario). I would get it checked out(well, truthfully actually I probably wouldn't as I avoid doctors like the plague)but it is the best course of action for you!!0

Please see a doctor very soon.
I had a similar fall. I did go to A&E and had an xray and nothing was broken. Several weeks later I went for an osteopathy treatment (for long-standing back problems - not the knee) and the therapist told me to see the doctor that day. I managed to get an appointment with a nurse, she looked at my knee and immediately got a doctor. The doctor looked at it and got straight on the phone to the hospital and I was rushed into a ward and put on an antibiotic drip and my leg was packed with ice. I was in hospital for ten days.
The fall had caused a serious infection in my knee bones and, had it been left another day, I might had lost the leg and been really ill with blood poisoning.0 -
God, she even convinced me too!0
