Not being the most tech person i would appreciate if anyone could help.
Over the years i have saved many films on my hard drive and when i want to watch them - rather than use my PC - i stream them to the PS3.
Having today figured out how to (and successfully) both stream and save a HD movie to my PS3 i was wondering how simple it would be to put my Blu Ray movies on there permanently. I know how to get them on the PS3, but how would i rip the movies from my Blu Ray discs?
Secondly, since i have only an 80gig PS3 can i expand the HDD? Either internally or via a USB HDD?
Thirdly can i do the same with HD movies?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

blu ray movies are massive files - 20gb plus would be fairly common.
an 80gb hard drive on your ps 3 would therefore hold 4 at a squeeze - probably more likely to be 3 movies. the hard drive can be upgraded by simply following the instructions in the book on replacing the drive.
I would have thought to rip them you would use a similar procedure for normal movie - on a pc you'd need a blu ray player and a piece of ripping software. copy the movie to a file then copy that file to the ps3. this transfer could be done with a large usb stick but it'll take hours to write - hours more to copy.
A better alternative might be to rip them using the pc to an external hard drive and then connect that to the ps3. i'm not even sure if that would work but i think it would

Thanks,
Time for it to work is no problem, id simply leave it doing its thing whilst out. I wonder if anyone has successfully connected a USB drive to their PS3?
Although, i suppose i could get a drive and stream the movies from that alone? It does seem to stream fine.0 -

It's easy to change the internal HDD in the PS3, it even tells you how in the manual (about 6 screws). You can pick up a 320gb 2.5 sata 5400 on ebuyer quite cheap.......;)What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0

We stuck a 500gb HD in our PS3, but we tape a lot using Play TVMy TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0
