    More info needed -
Is it asking for a BIOS password (i.e. before Windows even starts) or is it a Windows password it needs ?
Have you had it from new ? Have you ever set a password ? Does anyone else use it who may have setup a password ?

Is it second hand and someone else set a password be?

If it is a BIOS password, you can try opening up the laptop and removing the internal battery for a while to clear the CMOS settings but it may not do the trick - you will probably have to try ringing HP support.
