in Credit cards
Hi,
firstly I am not 100% sure, if I am writing in the right forum. If I dont, I am sorry and will try to open a new thread.
It might sound a bit paranoid but i have been a victim before (got the money back though)
However, here is what happened to me:
Went to the fuel station to fill up my car. I went in to pay and realised that the chip&pin device didnt work and the guy asked me to sign the receipt. No problem so far, even though that is often happening in this particular station.
The problem I had was that the guy compared the signatures on my card and the receipt. However, my card isnt signed (i know its not correct, but simply forgot and just realised). He never mentioned anything though, which worried me, but I guess he now had the chance to see my CVV Code. I coulndt really see, what he did with my card, unfortunatly.
Again, i might be paranoid and I dont want to acuse anyone, but I wonder if I should call up my bank and ask for a new card, should be free of charge, shouldnt it??
Thanks for your adice.
Markus

I would sign your card and then just keep an eye on your statements, online if you can as this is much more up to date than waiting until the end of the month.0

You were there at the time, so only you know the real situation.
However all card issuers will replace your card if you suspect that it has been comprimised and it is free. I would say if you are that concerned then ring them and sort it out sooner rather than later and explain the situation. However your card will be cancelled from the moment you call until you receive the new one.
It's not uncommon that people go through the motions of checking the signature strip but as we are so used to Chip & Pin some have forgotten what we look at the on the rear of the card! These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
we have a Chip n Pin machine at thepub i work in, we have to take the card off you to put it in machine and fill it all in, so it can easily be looked at as we get it in/out,then we have all your details!!
dont get too paranoid, but i do understand it if you have had it before.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
Thanks for your help.
I was thinking about it and since I have 2 accounts anyway, I called the bank and asked for a replacement card, which wasnt a problem at all.
I just swap the moeny I need to the other account until I have my new card.
Better be on the safe side.
Thank you for your help.
