Broken laptop screen 'cover'

Hi,
Not sure how I did it, but I've gone and chipped my laptop lid down by the hinge, exposing the internal circuitry. The places I've read on the internet suggest I'll need a whole new LCD screen, but that's virtually the price of a new laptop!
Is there any way I can repair it or get it repaired without having to effectively fork out for a whole new laptop? It's just cosmetic at the moment but fear that it could, long-term, cause internal damage.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6000.
Thanks,
Mike

Is it the outer cover or the inside part? as long as the screen is intact then it shouldnt need a new screen just a new case.
Contact HP and see if they can provide you with one. or buy a knackered laptop of the same type from ebay and replace the cover yourself.0
