Stopping a payment coming off a credit card

Hi, I havent posted on this site for ages, I need to get more involved :D

Anyway Im looking for some help. I fell for what I think was a scam on the internet. Im normally very wary of these things but I fell for this one. It was some thing to make money using Google and all you had to do was to pay a small shipping fee and thats it, but after I paid I read the small print and it said a charge of $39.95 will be taken every month unless told to cancel, but I cant find a way to contact anyone to cancel.

My card is with Abbey. If I rang to ask them, do you think they could stop any payments coming off for this certain so called company or if I could just put a stop on my card so it cant be used for anything at all. Im trying to clear it down anyway so I wont be using it for anything?

I always say if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is but I did fall for this one!

Please help :o

    hmm ok thanks.

    Im finding it hard to get a new credit card lately as Ive been trying to get a new one with 0% interest on balance transfers. I've been turned down for a good few which probably doesnt help my credit score.

  • I mean Abbey can reissue your card which should stop this pesky recurring payment. If something sounds too good to be true then it most certainly is!!
  • Sounds like a continuous payment authority, I think even cancelling the card can cause you problems, you *must* get the CPA cancelled at source with the company - if it is indeed a CPA then your bank may even authorise the payment on a cancelled card/account and come after you.

    Two points:
    credit card companies can stop and even reverse (call back) payments in cases of fraud;

    cancelling your card, and/or changing the number, will not stop a properly authorised payment (including a continuing authority).
  • Methinks no. 7 is Spam - reported as a precaution.

    Cheers guys,

    I think I'll keep check just incase Im worrying about nothing and nothing comes off. If it does I'll speak to them and see what they suggest I do :)
