Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm only 19 & still learning this whole credit card thing!!
I have had my egg card for over a year now and have yet to pay a penny interest (same goes for my nationwide card!) as for both cards I have set up d/d's to cover the full bill. This is where I am confused... I have just logged on to find this message from egg
Dear mrme
You may have recently seen a page when you logged into your accounts about this message regarding your Egg Card account. You may not realise this, but there's a small balance left on your Egg Card account. A payment on your account is now overdue. Please make a payment for at least the minimum payment amount shown below. Minimum payment amount £5.00 Balance £94.98 DR Credit limit £3,500.00
I have checked and my direct debit is still set up & there is plenty of money in my account to pay as I have just been paid so how can I miss a payment?? It makes no sense... will I get marked down for late payment or get any charges applied?? I have paid the minimum for now to be on the safe side don't want to pay the rest and end up in credit as I have been in credit for 2 months now thanks to a big refund and thats not really the point of a credit card :rotfl:
I know I will need to call with egg but I won't be able to do this until the end of next week so just wondering if anyone has had this happen before?
Cheers

Check with your bank that DD has been paid. DD Guarantee applies
Have you had to change / replace your credit card so new card has different number to the old one? That catches a lot of people out
Then contact Egg0 -

Nope its the same card! I have checked my bank & no money was paid because when egg prepared my statement I was still in credit by £44.52 so there was nothing to pay... I then paid for my TV license (yawn ) which was £139.50 but they seem to have debited my account immediately meaning a payment of £94.98 is now due... What I can't understand is why this debit has been applied to my last statement after they have sent me my statement and told me they require no payment meaning nothing was taken by D/D Surely the debit should have been applied to my current statement meaning I have a balance of £94.98 to pay when my next statement is prepared?
Anyway if they really want the £94.98 now they can have it... the money is there they have permission to take it & its not my fault if they can't make up mind how much they want grrrr
Ok does that make sense I'm waffling!! Time for bed :rotfl:
Thanks for your help... they had better not charge me anything for this unless I'm being dumb & its my fault:j :j0 -
Just ring them up and find out what is going on.
If your statement shows you owe nothing, then you owe nothing - they can't ask for money you don't owe.0 -
It could be a scam email of some sort, the ones that ask you to click a link it looks like the egg page but isn't, you then type in your details and bingo they have your user name, and password.
I would suggest you ring them now, you say you cannot contact then till the end of the week, I suggest you find 10 mins some where.

Egg have failed to take direct debits from me in the past. They'll probably need to set up a new instruction with your bank, and may ask to take a debit card payment over the phone in the meantime.
Make it very clear to them that this was THEIR fault - if necessary, ask your bank for a copy of the instruction on headed paper - Egg should acknowledge this was their error and not record it as a default.0 -
I am out of the country until the end of the week and didn't fancy calling an 0870 number from abroad on my mobile as it would probably cost a small fortune but think that would be the safest option!!
Is is deffo from egg as it pops up after you have logged into your account and passed the security details...
I do owe the money I am not disputing that its just they seem to have changed their mind as to what they want paying & when, so much for direct debit being a fool proof way of paying
Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what they say:j :j0 -
Ring the landline "from abroad" number on the card - Not sure for Egg Card but for Egg Money is it 01332 395 9190

It could just be an error.
When you log in does the transaction show on the 'Recent transactions' screen or do you have to select last statement?
In the past Egg's system has recognised that a Direct Debit payment isn't needed when an account is in credit or a refund has cleared the balance etc. But, afterwards the messaging system sees that a Direct Debit hasn't been requested and it automatically sends the missed payment message.
If it is this error which has happened I'm surprised they haven't sorted it out... they've had long enough!
There shouldn't be any reason to worry in terms of it affecting your credit history, if it turns out to be this error, as it's just the automated messaging system which has the glitch.0
