British Gas Boiler Installation Quote

Hello all,

We've had the following quote from BritishGas for a boiler replacement:

Install gas pipe work (22mm x 3mtr length) - £36.47
Connect boiler electronics & test - £145.80
Worcester Greenstar 15ri - £2,395.51
Condensate waste to hopper/gulley Head (22mm) £65.20
100mm Condensefit Mk2 Standard horizontal flue(570mm) £168.43

Which comes to £3,274.11 -- minus the various discounts (Including a warmfront £300 rebate for over 60s) it comes to £2,174.11

Is this a competitive quote?

It includes installation, but the boiler itself retails at £600, meaning the installation charge on the boiler alone is in the region of £1400.

Get another quote from a local CORGI registered plumber. I got mine done for £1,500 (plus another £125 for thermostatic radiator valves, which were optional).

I too had a quote from BG this month for installation of a new condensing boiler, plus Cylinder etc. etc., and with all the discounts ("Summer Sale and Warm Front). the Net cost quoted was £3469. Did your quote include for a new cylinder? Would be interested to learn if so?
Did my own "guesstimate" using individual component prices from the web sites based on items they had specified in their quote, Boiler, Cylinder, Magna Clean Professional, Flue, Condensate Waste Fitting, System Cleanser fluids etc. Arrived at a figure of £2174 for which I included £800 for labour.
Don't know what BG's hourly rate is, but suspect I they probably would charge more than this.The guy who carried out the survey did state however it was quite a staight forward replacement job, and may be possible to complete work in a day, hence the £800 labour figure.

I can't quote on that particular price but I know when BG quoted us, they were double our next most expensive quote. We used a small independant comapny in the end and they even provided the same boiler BG were going to for £600 cheaper!!!

The thing with BG is that they have the reputation behind them, thus many people go to them. I'd personally go through local independant gas Engineers through the gas safe web site and ask them for a free quote. You will save at least £1000 off the BG price. Myself I know I can get a boiler change for around £1500 max. With a standard 2 year manufactors guarentee.

I was looking at this wall and saw your post, i see its quite old now, but i can not resist adding my say, British Gas quoted my family and I, we had a combination boiler but over 10 years old i think and it needed replaceing, we were quoted £2774 to have a 28KW Boiler fitted to our 3 bedroomed house, we live in sheffield Uk and a friend recommended a local company who we asked for a quote from, they Fitted an Ariston HE Class 30KW i think with a 5 year parts and labour guarentee, they cleaned out the system with a power machine and some chemicals and fitted us valves to the raditators and we have a thermostat which is wireless, they took a day and a half to do it all but i must say they were brilliant and i don't think i have ever said that about anybody else before lol, but the Bill was £1699 including everything, our gas bills are much better now too. there details are DSC not too sure what it stands for, the number is 08707 583100, they told us that they are the agent for ariston and we can join them on there maintainance plan for £10 per month which includes a free service at the end of the guarentee. we checked the price of the boiler on the internet and it costs over £1200 so i dont think they were greedy with the labour price at all.

22mm should not be used externaly.

The goverment are doing an offer at moment where they give you a £400 voucher when you have a new boiler installed, there is lots of terms and conditions but you can use any Gas safe engineer.

A reputation for incompetence? I had a BG boiler fitetd once, I almost had a nervous breakdown with the stress. 12 visits fron different engineers and two motnhs later the new boiler actually started working. The engineers from the boiler manufacturers said "what criminals made this balls up" when they saw the install.
Do NOT use BG. Overpriced, under-trained exploitative rip-off merchants.
