Hi Paisley Buddy. I was in a similar position to you last summer. I was thinking of getting my first Motability Vehicle and knew from colleagues at work (yes I work for DWP ) I wanted to know woul;d I be better of waiting a few eeks till the new prices were out or take the plunge.
Basically Motability prices tend to fluctuate pretty rapidly. If you ask a dealer they'll say they don't have the new prices until the day of the changeover. This isn't the case. They tend to have them shortly before. The thing is that they will hardly ever tell you what you want to know as its all part of their commission etc. It could go either way. I got a Grand C4 Picasso EGS 2.0 HDi and decided againt waiting. The advance payment was around £1295. When the new prices came out it went up to £1595. Motability won't tell you as they claim to not know either so unfortunately its pot luck. If you want a vehicle without adaptions you maybe able to try this. Go to the dealer the day before the prices change. Before ordering the vehicle make out that your not 100% sure about the vehicle and ask about your cancellation rights should you change your mind. As long as the dealer tells you you can cancel without charge, order the vehicle you want. Next day look and see what the new prices are. If its cheaper, cancel the order, leave it for a couple of weeks then place it at the new price. If its dearer then you have done the deal at the right time. Changing your mind the next day isnt too bad as its not as if you've left it weeks. If you find the advance payments to be out of your budget and you really need the vehicle to asisst with your condition then ask Motability about grants to assist with the cost of paying towards your new car. I know its probably not what you wanted to hear but this is the only way that I can think of which may work out the best for you.
I hope this is of some help to you.0 -
Every time I am due to change my Motability car, we spend months researching every car on the list. Because of my disability I need a certain height to be able to get in and out. We have a caravan, so it needs to be able to tow. I can only drive an automatic, so this all narrows our choice. I cannot be without a car, so we change when our old one is up. I have noticed that every time I have changed (5 times) when the next quarters advanced payment list comes out there are always better offers for the type of car I was looking for. Sod's law I call it.0

we were lucky with this changeover. The garage was supportive and helpful and were prepared that if the car we booked went up for the advance payment we would be pulling out. basically you can do that.
we were lucky as the price actually went down which was a huge relief.
We always look at the advance payments as there is no way we can stretch to some of the high ones but its a great system and we are really grateful for it and the ability to have a nice car that serves me well and I can get in and out of easier. I love the fact I havent got to worry about renewing insurance, tax, breakdown cover.Eleventh Heaven no 710 - we can all dream0 -
On the Motability site it states :-
" And remember, when you order your car you secure the current price - even if our prices change before you collect your new car. That's our price guarantee."
I may be wrong but if the price decreases I think you get the lower price.0 -
