Hiya
This on behalf of someone else actually, I was wondering if anyone on here knew - they've applied for a job with one of the large banks in an inbound call centre. They have some late payments and a poss default on their credit file - will they turn him down? He's passed the assessment etc., and told them he's had late payments so....??
Thanks

i wouldnt like to say for certain as in my experience employers seem to find ANY reason not to employ me but i thought the credit check was just to make sure your not like in LOADS of debt and likely to steal from the bank? i dont think a few late payments would matter!
oh well hopefully he'll be ok then, thank you!0 -
They want to employ people who have handled their finances well so as not to be a hypocrite when handing out financial advice over the phone. Would you accept financial tips from a bankrupt?0

It may have changed, but banks use to require employees to be squeaky clean with their finances..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
get your friend to check out his credit report for free with experian or equifax. If there doesn't look to be anything too major on there then he has nothing to worry about. I work for a major bank and i had a couple of missed payments on mine when they did my check.
Hope this helps0 -

Been to the bank a few times recently, the general staff seem to have very little autonomy/authority and they have to phone, follow a script on a screen and call another department to get clearance - it reminded me of usher in a theater, but ushers seem to know a bit more what is going on. Very unimpressed, even the mortgage guy was tied down by reading off the screen could make no decisions, just basic commons sense advice and company policy.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

Inbound call centre staff are NOT ALLOWED to give financial advice unless they are appropriately qualified.
I used to recruit for a number of high st banks and what they are looking for is someone who is capable of managing their finances, and who is not in financial trouble. A bankrupt probably would have a problem being hired, a few missed payments might be excused. Two of the major banks (Can I say who they are?) would even allow defaults as long as the default was paid.
However, it's always worth checking your credit file. To my cost I know that financial institutions make mistakes so it's worth finding out and resolving now, rather than being turned down when it's too late.0 -

Given the general culture change in the last few years they allow 'discretions' in a persons history, it also very much depends on the role being undertaken as to what/how much indiscretion their rules allow.0
