real live auctions

I've the chance to go to a real live auction this morning, and I'm really nervous.
I went yesterday to the viewing and have marked my catalogue for the bits and pieces I fancy, it's all repossesed stuff and shop clearance. I've cash in my bag to pay my bidding deposit and I have all my bidding limits marked, and I'm too nervous to go....
The porter I spoke to said it is one of the fastest auctioneers she has seen, up to 180 lots an hour and she said it is absolutely frantic.
The only reason I want to go is I want to see what the boxes of books make and the genral tat. I checked some of th ebooks on Amazon and there are some that are listed in the £15-£20 mark, so a box might be worth getting if they go cheap enough, but I'm a coward

Local auctions or auction houses.

Best i can suggest is dont lose the item for a bid.
Also in the same breathe dont get auction fever and get carried away bidding.
Remember to Check the auctioneer's commission. Before you decide how much you want to spend, remember that most auction houses charge about ten to 15 per cent plus VAT on the hammer price!
Attract attention to your bid. In a packed saleroom don't be afraid to attract the auctioneer's attendion: wave your catalogue or bidding card and call out if need be.
I love the hussle and bussle of the auctions i go to atleast 1 auction normally 2 a week locally

180 lots an hour is at the same kind of speed as a cattle auction - keep your wits about you!0

Don't be nervous (although I can understand why you are). You've got a very sensible head on your shoulders and you have already done the hard part. You have sussed out what you are interested in and the maximum you are willing to pay should you bid on those items.
All you have to do now is go along. You don't even have to bid if you don't want to, you can just think of it as a spectator sport. You can watch what's going on, who's bidding for what, how much things are going for etc. Just like on TV, only without David Dickinson sticking his awe in (bonus!!!).
Then should any of the items come up that you are interested in, and you feel like it, you can join in and bid if you want to. Just remember to stick to your maximum prices, and not to get caught up in the excitment of the auction. Remember also that you are in control at all times.
Like I say, I know why you might feel nervous, but don't be, just go and have fun.0 -

I often go to my local auction house to view the general sale items.
Although i've won a couple of Railway lost property boxes (full of boots and thermos flasks - my daughters and hubby were well chuffed!)with left bids, I've never actually been to a live auction as it were.
I have left bids on boxes of books too, but never actually won one. I am committed elsewhere on Wednesday afternoons when the general auction runs, but I won't be after Easter so I shall wander along - I'll be just as nervous as you Soolin!
Don't know if I'll have the nerve to bid - maybe after a few visits!
Don't forget if you can't make the auction you can leave a bid on the books as it were and you never know you may win!AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0033 come and join us :j make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board0 -

good luck!
if you win some boxes be sure to check amazon first... if you have more than say 25 to sell it might be worth getting their sellers account as they'll wave their 86p/item fee
regardless i find that i almost always make more money on amazon and you don't pay fees if it doesn't sell
