Hi elsa,
I haven't bought a dress but have been avidly reading all threads connected with this, we're on a budget and can't afford mistakes!
What I've come up with are these points;
Order from a company that is highly reccommended (ie Landy or Milly Bridal)
If your dress is from another company, if they are on ebay look at their rating and read the customer feedback (I'd be very wary of anything below high 90%), also contact buyers who've left feedback (especially if they've bought the dress you're looking at) ask them for their opinion and even if they can send ou a picture of their dress (some companies fake their feedback).
Also if you pay by Papal or credit card you are better protected than if you pay another way.
Hope that helps, sorry I can't be of any more help but I'm sure someone will be along soon who has more experience than me.0 -
I had my dress from milly. I contacted them direct, not through their ebay shop, they still accept paypal. I had a custom dress so sent them as many pictures as I could find. They made a mock up dress and sent pictures to me all through the process of them making it. They altered it at every stage where I asked them to. When they sent me a picture of the finished article it still didn't look quite right, so the basically re made the bodice for no extra charge. They did take a little persuading, but like anywhere I think they try to put you off once, but then did a fantastic job. I would reccommend them but say be persistent if you are not immediately happy with the pictures they send to you.0

I bought my dress through eBay from Landy - eBay shop is asapbay. Pictures on thread Mrs P with pics.
Before I bought I contacted several of the customers on there for their opinions. I ordered a standard size from the listing but asked for the train to be detachable. The only other alteration I asked for was to the length. I also wanted white so didn't have any worries about ordering it or seeing fabric colours. I was fortunate to be of the opinion that if it was dreadful I would go buy one from a shop but it was gorgeous.
The fabric quality was fantastic but I would say that having seen a close up picture of the original (after I had bought mine) the beading and embroidery were similar but not the same so if you fall in love with the detail on an original dress you should consider if you would be disappointed if it was not the same.
Dress took about 6 weeks but 2 of those were Chinese New Year bank holiday weeks and there was all that dreadful weather in China this time last year!
Total cost £92 - my adult bridesmaid dress cost more than mine did
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended
