Chargeback over postage disagreement

Can someone do a chargeback on paypal even if they have received the item? A buyer of mine from Poland received the item but he must have misread the auction listing. He thinks I was going to send it so that he would have to sign for it and I just sent it by normal airmail (which it clearly states in the listing). Now he's moaning that I didnt send it by recorded delivery and is threatening a chargeback. The postage costs he paid were exactly what I spent on the postage. What happens if he does a chargeback on this?

He can't chargeback just because he doesn't like the postage method. He can however make a fraudulent claim for item not received (assuming it does arrive and he pretends it doesn't).

Poland is a slight problem in that a lot of packages never arrive, but if he had particularly wanted something signed for he should have asked.

He's told me it has arrived. He's just not happy that the item wasnt sent by recorded delivery even though the auction listing didnt state it would be.

If he tries a frauudlent claim on you email him politely, but firmly, that you will report all fraudulent activity to the relevant authority.

I would just email them back and state that you posted the auction according to the postage method stated on the listing and this is what they got.

At the end of the day the parcel was received by the method you listed in the auction so what is this buyers problem

You can always guarentee idiots on ebay and they are either stupid or just trying it on

nope :-(, if the buyer claims it hasn't been delivered then the seller has no means of proving it has to paypal

seller will loose a chargeback 99% of the time in this instance

Luckily in this case the buyer has told the seller that the item has arrived so surely the buyer has no rights

Have you saved the replies where he states that he has received item?

    Keep hold of them

Usually, they would find in favour of the buyer if you have no proof of registered post, but if he has messaged you to say that he has received it, I should imagine he would have a leg to stand on.

If you have proof that he has received it then he cannot do a chargeback, unless its for 'item not described' but again the item is not at question here its the postage. His main gripe is as he claims you didnt send it recorded. So he believes he is out of pocket. If I were you I would just pay the recorded delivery difference of whatever it is or partial postage. And dont deal with him again.

Just to clarify...an email from a buyer confirming delivery is not usually accepted by paypal as proof of delivery as they have no way (or I suppose no inclination!) of confirming whether the email was sent by the buyer or not.

If an email was sufficient we would need to worry as it would mean that scam sellers could prove delivery for items just by faking a clever looking email from the buyers confirming receipt.

I suspect that this buyer does not trust the Polish postal service; probably lost a few items and is just a bit miffed that it didn't come with some sort of "signed for" in place.

If accepting PayPal most folk on here know by now that you need to cover yourself.

I think you need to find out what he wants; if you are ballsy with him you might lose! So be be nice and see how you can calm him down even to the extent of offering him say 5% refund. I know that will be a bit galling but it is certainly an option worth considering.

You really should have sent it either signed for or Airsure (if thats an option to Poland)
