Extension lead for Broadband

Hi
Wondering if anyone can advise me. Recently bought a new computer desk and despite my loved one measuring it up - he got it wrong. Consequently it does not fit in the space it was supposed to go so it has to be moved to the other side of the room.
The broadband lead is not long enough, so I was wondering if anyone knew just what kind of fitting I need to buy so it will extend to the other side of the room.
We have Virgin broadband. A very small box with a white lead and a kind of screw in fitting. We also have a blue Linksy box which we used to use a lap top with. Would this be of any help?? I am completely hopeless when it comes to leads and wires etc.
I would like to get us back on line as soon as possible and wondered if I could get the right kit tomorrow at Currys/PC world.
Any advice much appreciated.

if you want to go cable you need a "lan patch cable", pcworld etc should be able to sort u out but they are the most expensive place to buy it from.
At their prices also consider if a wireless usb adapter may be a better option o link with your linksys box, either will do the job for web browsing.
make sure you measure up the length u will need before buying cable.click here to achieve nothing!0 -
I think you mean the cable from the cable box to the new desk location needs extending with this: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&langId=-1&searchTerms=5342622&Submit=GO+%3E
They should do them in Comet as Satellite related unsure if PC World would do them.0 -

mdbarber's sugestion is the better option. leave the cable modem where it is and use a longer patch cable between the modem and the PC. Network cable is much more flexible than the coaxial cable used for the connection between the modem and the set top box.
If your local to Bolton I can make a cable to the lenght you need.0 -

Yeah, the better bet is to keep the cable box where it is and get a longer lead to connect the box to the PC. This will be a standard ethernet cable (a.k.a. LAN patch cable) and shouldn't be expensive.
Presumably the Linksys box is a Wireless Access Point that's connected to your cable box, so an alternative solution would be to get a wireless adaptor for the PC and connect wirelessly.0 -
Hi all, it was simple in the end, we just used an ethernet cable we had lying around and as you can see I am back on line. Thanks for all your help.:)Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
