SNES: Is This A Fair Price? [Pics Inside]

Hello, I was browsing our local classifieds (Not strictly eBay though it could lead on to be) when I found someone was looking for a SNES. I dusted mine off and talked to him and he asked for a price. I hate it when people ask me for prices instead of making an offer as I never know if it's too much or if I'm scamming myself. I've done my research and this is the email I've sent him...

snesgames.jpg

This is the SNES with the pads plugged in and the Scope receiver on the top. The Scope receiver sits on the top and you aim for it - the movement is followed on screen and you play the game by 'shooting' at the targets.
The mostly black game is the one for the scope, the one above it is Mario Allstars and the one below it is the Super Game Boy - this allows you to play gameboy games on your SNES. Inside the SGB is Spiderman 2 to show how it fits in.

Along the top of the picture is the Scope. Below it is Super Mario Allstars, the black one again is all the games compatiable with the Scope.
Underneath those is a closer look at the game inside the SGB and to the right is Super Mario World and Jurassic Park.
To the right of those is the power adaptor and beneath it is the light and magnifier that fit on top of the gameboy to allow clearer view of the screen.

To the right of the picture is the gameboy (please note it is a classic and not a colour one) which is in it's own protective case that holds the games too.
The bottom game in the case is Zoop, the top is Dr Mario. Other games are shown in pictures below.
In the lid of the case is a rechargable battery pack with the adapter and a closer look at the light and magnifier.

3games.jpg

These are more gameboy games - they are Tetris, Pinball Deluxe and Mario And Yoshi.

controllers.jpg

These are the controllers for the SNES. One is the original and the other was bought at a later date

wire.jpg

These are the original wires showing the box that allows you to switch between the SNES and the TV. All wires that link up the SNES to a TV are included - all you would need to provide - if you felt it necessary - is another ariel wire that would allow you to flick between the two without having to unplug and swap over.

Pricing
I've been looking at the prices of completed auctions on eBay as a guide and it seems that...
Console, Wires And Games: £35-45
Scope, Scope Sensor And Game: £10-30
Super Game Boy: £5
Gameboy With Games: £20
Rechargable Battery: £5
Magnifier & Light: £2-5
So my total would be £80, saving you £30 off the top whack of eBay prices. Please get back in touch if you are still interested.

I've also added on a bit about how I'm not a shop and so won't take returns, it's sold as seen, cash on delivery etc etc - but again, it's the price I'm concerned about. I've offered to do him a BIN on eBay if he'd feel safer buying it that way but again said it's cash on pick up (though I know you have to offer paypal). Should I look out for anything else?

Thanks!

Looking at this months "retro gamer", they reckon £20 for a SNES and £5 for the Gameboy if B&W, else £12 if colour. I would imagine £1 or £2 per game would be about right.

I wouldn't have thought there was much demand for these....you can play the games for free via a emulator yet they're too common to be a collectors item.

All the best of luck with the sale though - looks like you've gne to a bit of troule rooting ot all out so I hope they guy's not a timewaster.

To be fair I am wondering about keeping it and I will connect it up and play with it if he doesn't want it :o

Keep it - I set my old snes up every so often it's a good laugh playing on the old games and it may increase in value in the future if you keep it in good condition.
  • I got a tad excited then thinking I could get £80 for the one I have in the attic with all the bits and bobs with it - only I remembered my dog ate the controller when he was a pup - I'll buy a controller of you :D

  • 80 squid is a tad ambitious, i have sold snes bundles on ebay on quite a few occasions, ie - snes with 2 controllers, all leads and 6 games including a couple of classics like streetfighter and mario kart and usually get around the 30 to 40 quid mark. Its more about what games you include rather than the actual snes, some of them are pretty rare and much sought after - mario kart, yoshis island, bomberman etc
