DLA claim

Hi i applied for DLA as i have fibromyalgia and have just had an op for a prolapsed disc , i applied in 2003 and was turned down i even appealed which was an awful experience and was still refused , they reiceived my forms on the 5th dec 08 they wrote to me and said they would contact my doctor and i had heard nothing else until this morning when i got a letter saying that they were sorry that they have not given me a decision yet and they will deal with it as quickly as they can !!!!!What does this mean on my chances of getting it is it good or bad ? any advice would be great as i hoped when i saw the letter this morning i would have had a decision thank you claire x

  • hi its standard practice for them to send this letter out to you its just to let you know that you have not been forgotten... they can and probably will take the full amount of time that they can to reply to you this can be upto 11/12 weeks so i would expect to hear a decision of them around this time from the date you requested the forms... GOOD LUCK THO!
always send a smile as it costs nothing..

Hi Thank you for your replies i wish they would just give me a decision i am having to have my mam here while my husband is at work just to help me do things ie cook dinner ,help upstairs etc its so frustrating and i have 2 boys as well my youngest is 17 months so i really need this decision to go my way x x
  • Hi Tatty

Part of my claim for DLA is for a failed surgery on my back, I get HRM and LRC. My claim took about 3 months, I did get it all back dated. I know how frustrating it can be waiting for a claim to come through. Mines due for renewal in August so I'm expecting an envelope through the door in the next few weeks all I can say is deep joy!!!!.................LOL

Keep smiling it will be through soon hopefully

May be a good idea to check with your Dr and see if they have contacted them just incase any correspondance has bee lost in the post. If they havent you could then ring DLA and explain that your Dr still has not been contacted as they may be waiting to hear from them.

This happened to me DLA were waiting for a reply from school but school hadnot recieved anything so I contacted DLA and explained and a very nice lady sent more forms out to school straight away.

Hope you hear back from them soon x

  • Hi there,

Good luck, it took them over four months to get back to me. I was lucky that when they contacted my doctor he called me in to ask all of my problems and how best he could help me.

I did get it....yeah! And I got the pay all of the way back to when I applied...it really has helped in some respects but I'd give it all back for a day without pain.....then again wouldn't we all?

    Sending much love to you.

This usually means that your GP has been a little slow in replying, not unusual,in most cases a claim for DLA takes around 11/12 weeks, but frompast experience when you get this letter you normally get a decision within a couple of weeks.
Did you see your doctor to inform him you were applying for DLA and made sure he was aware of your care and/or mobility needs?Always a good idea

Sorry to hear its your claim is taking so long. I have just had my decision (HRM and MRC) after 5 weeks. Not too bad i suppose! Although there is nothing in the decision letter as to when it is actually going to be paid. Anyone shed any light?

    take care all xx

  • They are probably still waiting for response from your doctor - have you checked with doctor?

Payments will be backdated to the date you applied or if you got the forms from the dwp back to the date stamped on the forms,so could be backdated 2 months which will be about £720
