Solar or wind up power for batteries and mini usb phone

DH is off to work/travel in Kenya for a couple of weeks soon and we want to be able to keep in touch. We've got a Motorola L6 mobile (thanks to Virgin reconditioned deal) which has a mini usb connection for charging (550mA output from mains). Problem is, where he's going there's no mains power - just lots of sunshine!
Ideally we'd like something that would charge AA batteries (to use in the camera as well!) and work with either solar or preferably wind up power but I'm a bit baffled by the technology.
Can anyone advise us?
Thanks,
Beckipeg.

I have a wind up device which has:
Torchlight
radio
emergency flashing red lights
emergency siren
mobile phone charger with two different sockets - charges my Nokia and most other phones.
However the mobile charging is one hell of a job! It takes two or three minutes of severe elbow grease production to charge it enough for a short phonecall. That said, this thing is very handy, being light and the size of a reasonable torchlight, bought in Robert Dyas for £14.99.
Needless to say, I am looking into getting a solar mobile phone charger.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I have located some solar motorola chargers at the following sites:
