Delivering advice please?

I realise there will be different delivery services in different areas (I'm in Scotland) but could anyone advice on what might be the best method to send biggish things?
Son has a 'PA' system which has very large speakers and since he's never used the thing, he's finally decided to raise some cash by selling it.
Bit worried about the delivery side of things though, it's not the kind of thing you can take to the PO.
Be greatful for any advice/suggestions?
TIA
