Buyer raised Item Not Recieved...

Just over 2 weeks ago (18 days) I got an email from ebay saying that a Canadian buyer had not received an item I posted at the beginning of December.
I'm not thinking for a second that they are trying it on, the whole value (inc postage) was only £5.85, and I've been on the other side of a non received dispute, so know how it feels.

Anyway, I replied to the seller saying that I had received the message and would they like an immediate refund? Or what did they want me to do? (I have proof of postage so *could* raise it with RM, but for the value, I think I'll just write it off)
I didn't hear anything back from the buyer, so emailed again a week later stating that my reply had possibly gone astray.. or had they now received the item? Nothing again.

Should I email again? Just refund? Wait to hear from them? Never been on this side of a dispute before, and only on the other side once.. so no clue what to do!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

First of all I would make sure that all your responses are through PayPal's dispute console, rather then eBay's messaging system or emailing direct.

This will show a willingness on your part, although the buyer will probably win the dispute anyway.

Despite the low value I would still claim with Royal Mail. If the service isn't tracked, you won't get much back, but they might send you a book of stamps for your trouble - and they always come in handy!
  • Hi.. thanks for the reply. The buyer hasn't yet raised a dispute with paypal - just with ebay.. I will, however, try emailing them.

    Thanks
  • Odd... I didn't think it was possible to raise an ebay dispute if you paid with PP.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Well this is what I got:

    Dear *****
s.gifOn 04-Jan-2009 your buyer ******5 reported that the item ******** had not yet been received.s.gifWe understand that the item may still be in transit, payment may not have cleared yet, or that the item was accidentally posted to the wrong address. As a result, eBay has taken no action at this time.

However, it's important to note that when you sell an item on eBay, you're agreeing to a contract between you and the buyer.

Sellers are required to deliver an item for which payment was accepted. Please read the eBay Seller Non-Performance policy for more information.

    What should you do now?
-Please view the case and respond to your buyer within the next 10 days. -We encourage you to work with your buyer to resolve this situation. -If you don't respond within the next 10 days, the buyer may escalate the claim to our Trust and Safety team. We may then take appropriate action against your account.Upon checking my paypal.. there is nothing showing as an open dispute there though..
  • Missed half my message -

When I checked paypal, there is no dispute showing at all.

i would wait for them to reply
  • They've probably now received the item and aren't that bothered anymore.

I've raised a not received dispute via paypal before (for something not bought via ebay) the dispute eventually prompted the seller to send the goods and that was that. I didn't feel the need to close any disputes or was even directed at closing the dispute by paypal, I think they automatically close them after a set time.

Just forget about it as they may well have received it and not be a net junkie or just can't be arsed to follow up for £6. As long as you've updated your side of the dispute just leave it at that.
    Wins: pink kids laptop :(
