Hot Water Tank Leak

We have just found a small, slow leak in our hot water tank. It appears to be coming from where the immersion heater screws into the hot water tank. The tank approx 16 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be rectified or why it has happened? Is it common?

We had the same problem with our tank a few years ago. A seal had gone where the pipe went in. We got a plumber out who was able to drain the tank and repair the seal very easily. Can't remember how much it cost. It's been fine ever since.
