Hi,

Hopefully some of the knowledgeable bods on here can help me out again.

I've finally had an afternoon to try sort my pc out which included completing a few instructions given to me in this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1326871&page=2

Everything is was going A ok until i tried to download PC tools firewall. I downloaded it and installed it fine, but as soon as i rebooted to complete the process my computer spat its dummy out. I could start up and log in ok, but after that nothing worked, pressing ctrl+alt+del revealed that 100% of CPU was in use so it was obviously doing something but to all intents and purposes it just seemed to freeze.
After restarting (manually) a few times and trying different things, including waiting for a hour to see if it just needed a bit of alone time i gave up restarted in safe mode and uninstalled it. I tried starting again just make sure i hadn't done something wrong but had to do the same thing all over again.

I followed the destructions to a T the second time, but is there anything i did wrong or does it just not like my PC?

Can anyone recommend a similar free product, or will the windows one suffice?

There may be something conflicting with it can you post a hijackthis log http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/ Install and press Do a system scan and save a logfile and post the contents of it back here. Also run CCleaner to clean out any junk http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ make sure to deselect the yahoo toolbar during installation.

looks clean to me
Try using CCLEANERs top 2 scanners (backup the registry when it asks)
If it still doesnt work then uninstall using REVO UNINSTALLER
run GLARY UTILITIES one click scanner and CCLEANER again then try again
If that doesnt work id give up and try comodo

Ran CC cleaner's top two scanners.
Still doesnt work had same problem, now uninstalled it again.

Sorry to be ignorant what is GLARY UTILITIES as i'm up to that bit i think.

still doesn't work.
n.b. Glary seemed to have a lot of stuff that it couldn't fix unless i registered.

Are you SURE it was glary utilities you downloaded? Make sure you clicked 'DOWNLOAD NOW'

Hmm i'm not that much of a technofobe, well at least i thought i wasn't. Went wrong somewhere trying it all again now.
