hp printer

my hp business inkjet printer was showing empty on black and cyan
and the paper empty light was on,so i bought a new black ink but couldnt get a cyan, have fitted the black and cant get the thing to print, does it have to have all colour cartidges full as well,
wont even try and print a test page or by pressing the paper empty tray/ button icon wont send a page though either,
and if i had known that i could have got an epsom d120 from pc world for £ 60.00 i would have gone straight there and kept my £34 .00 for black cartridge in my pocket.
regards

What's the model number of your HP printer? ;)

Normally you have to have all the cartridges fitted or at least some ink in them too... If my HP runs out of colour ink in a cartridge (colour), XP comes back to me and ask's if I want to print in Greyscale only, but again depends on your printer and the communication between printer and pc...

I guess and think it will not print anything without a cartridge in (colour or B&W), so you need to have all the cartridges in and see if it will print in "greyscale" only.... File-Print-Preferences.
  • hi there , have followed your good advice and set to print in greyscale but it still wont have it,i cant understand why the paper feed tray light is on as if it,s run out of paper, there,s plenty of good clean crisp paper there and i,ve had the back off to see if there,s any jams,i gonna get a refill from cartridge world for the cyan ink and see if that works,if not ,then its off to pc world for a £60 epsom with a lot cheaper refills,
will let you know how i get on.
    many thanks

Many printers (inkjet especially) will refuse to function until all cartridges are inserted; HP are notorious for this; Canon seems to be headed in that direction.

  • Hi most hp buisness inkjet printers also have consumable print heads you need to check on the actual printer that it is the actual ink drop light that is on and not the printhead light. the printheads are situated to the rear of the cartridges and have a tiny flap on so you can remove them. if it is not the printhead then its a faullty chip on the actual cartridge

    hope this helps
