What are my rights as a seller on Ebay?

I wonder whether somebody can clarify where I stand with regards to a sale I made on Ebay. I sold a Tens Machine at the beginning of December - I received no feedback from the buyer or any communication. Yesterday I received an email from Paypal saying that there was a dispute against the transaction and the buyer had said that the item was not as described since it did not work. As far as I'm concerned it worked perfectly fine when I sent it.
My feeling is that for the buyer to wait 42 days without any communication and then request a refund is unreasonable. How do I know that they have not broken it or indeed, whether it's the same machine even???
Any advice??

You don't know unfortunately. You can put your case to paypal and explain that buyer appears to have been happy with it for x amount of days, but ultimately paypal will decide. If paypal find for the buyer then the buyer must return the item to you tracked to delivery before paypal take the money for the refund.
Can you please just clarify though whether a full chargeback has been opened or just a basic dialogue (dispute).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for that - it's a full dispute .... my doing as I said that I thought it was unreasonable to wait so long. The thing is that I would've happily refunded the money if they had said something within a week or so. I can't help thinking that they are trying their luck ... or maybe I'm just unreasonable?!!0

You buyer has had the baby now and does not need the tens machine any more?

That's what I thought ... there are just some people that are just out to rip you off. It's not just buyers that suffer from dishonest people - puts me off using ebay!0

Well Paypal have ruled that I need to refund the buyer .... I can't believe it! I'm sure they've pulled a fast one! I'm so annoyed with the whole system.0

Figures
eBay is a mine field for sellers these days, have you considered using Amazon Marketplace instead? We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
I'll do that the next time. I'll be interested to see what comes back to me. It says on the email from Paypal that they need a proof of postage .... what happens if they send something back that isn't what I sent out? Do they take the buyers word for it again?0

There could be a brick in the box, it doesn't matter, PayPal will side with the buyer just as long as they have a tracking number and it's been signed for.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Paypal need proof of delivery from the buyer, so the buyer has to return it by a trackable method.0
