Special Delivery question...

This is probably nothing, but its on my mind so I have to ask!

I ordered a rather gorgeous Tarina Tarantino necklace from a website on monday, and it was posted out yesterday via Special Delivery.

I checked the tracking number a few minutes ago and it tells me it has been successfully delivered.

I have been in all morning, and I know for a fact the postman hasn't even been up my street yet
The signature isn't yet available online.

Im thinking that in all probability this will turn up when the postie comes (usually around midday) but is this usual? Can it be signed off at the depot or has it definitely been delivered somewhere?

I wonder if they update the tracking info when it is put on a van as I checked the tracking of a parcel I sent yesterday and it showed delivered at 9.00AM this morning but the customer only received it a few minutes ago.

Thats what I was wondering. My other thought is if my OH met postie at the end of the drive when he was leaving but this is doubtful as 1. Postie is never here that early and 2. OH would have dropped the package back in the house for me because he knows I cant wait for things :p

Incidentally, I wouldnt think it would come on the van as its very small.

    Oh dear.

The last few I sent last week didn't show as delivered until well into the afternoon, I assume that was to allow time for the van or postman to get back to the office and log it. It is worrying that is shows as delivered already. Can you give RM a call and ask them what's happening?

    Just done exactly that....

They tell me that its possibly still out there for delivery, but its guaranteed for 1pm. I have to call them again at 2pm if it hasn't arrived, giving time for the postie to get back to the office as you said. I'll hold off going out until after 1pm now, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Damn my normal postie for having a week off lol!

By all means call them back at 2pm, but remember not all postmen return to the delivery office when they are finished their rounds. However this should not have been marked as delivered. but out for delivery. If your local delivery office is still using the old fashioned way of signing for things, it can take a while for the signatory to show online.

If u give royal mail the item number they can do a more in depth search than u can, they will also know which postie the item has been allocated to, so will know who to ask about where/when they delivered it.

Small update, I left the house at 1pm on the dot and nothing had come, I have just walked through the door at 1.50pm and there is now a card pushed through with special delivery ticked. The card time is 12.58....

Cant collect until nearer 2.30 but Im hoping this is it. Looks like it was marked wrongly as mazza suggested but Ill let you know later.

Ok, Im back and I have the necklace (insert huge sigh of relief here!)

I questioned as to why it had been showing as signed for and delivered with the sorting office and they tell me it just happens at that particular office...as soon as its received in the office its signed off as delivered!

Its a system guaranteed to give me a heart attack but at least I know for next time...

Either way if you left the house at 1pm the postie has been a bit naughty timing the card 12:58 - conveniently two minutes before the cut off for the guaranteed delivery time.

Makes you wonder how late it really was, and how often this trick is used to make items look "delivered" when the sender checks the tracking info, to avoid having to refund because the "guaranteed" time was not actually met.

Exactly, and when I left at 1pm I was searching the street for him. If it came via the van it didn't pass me and this is a long cul de sac which I live right at the end of. Would have easily taken me 3 or 4 minutes to drive down there so there is virtually no way he could have delivered at 12.58...

I was out for around 45 minutes, so could have been any time then. Unless of course he was hiding in a bush just waiting for me to leave haha

I just placed an order with Asos for next day delivery as well, so Ill see how that tracking number fares....
