wii speak problem

Can anyone tell me how to get a wii speak to accept the code that comes with the booklet? I've tried everything to get it to work and it just won't. I have emailed and rung the nintendo service centre and they don't answer at all. Two friends bought them around the same time and they are having the same problem. Does anyone know what we are doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I had the problem too. I ran the wii software update and then tried it again and it accepted the code and was up and running in a minute.0
