Bathroom basin taps.............

Hope someone might be able to enlighten me, moved into house in November and the all the HOT basin taps appear to have discoloured/no shine, but not the cold taps? I initially thought that previous owners had been using something a little to harsh on them, thus taking the surafce off? Is there anything I can do to clean them up/restore? I dont really relish the idea of replacing 3 sets of taps, hubby isn't very clever with plumbing/DIY, so would have to get a plumber. PS. house is only 8 years old?
Any advice would be great....................

What kind of taps? Chrome or brass?

I'd guess it's just the milky appearance of limescale. Have you tried a normal clean, followed by an immediate polish with a soft dry cloth?

Hi, They are chrome, I've tried just about everything from gentle cleaning to vigourous scrubbing! the cold taps seem to come up a treat, which is why I can't understand why it's only the hot taps?
