Under floor heating

At the moment our kitchen doesn't have any form of heating and we're thinking of installing under floor heating. I don't know anything about this type of heating, can anyone help?
What type of flooring can it go under? We want to replace our current flooring at the same time as having the under floor heating installed.
Is it very expensive to run?
How is it installed? What is it plugged in to?
Anyone have any idea of how much it costs? and can we install it ourselves or do we have to get someone in to do it?
Thanks in advance

Whatever you do - dont got for electrical undefloor heating - it will cost you a fortune.
And also, definitely insulate underneath that heating otherwise you will never actually heat the room - all the heat will warm up the ground underneath.
