Customs duty ????

I am buying something from hong kong. Its 5kg and the postage is about £50 they state customs duty is not included. Any ideas how much it would be and how would i be charged for this?

Any help would be apreciated.

it depends on what the item is. not everything gets taxed. clothing and makeup does i can tell you that for nowt!

On my parcel was a £4 charge from royal mail and £4 from customs. If the product is declared as a gift but value is over £18 then you have to pay charges.

Its valued at £110 so im guessing the customs charge will be a fair bit. I will have to give them a ring.

For most items it's around 17.5% VAT + 2.5% Duty + £10 import agent's fees.

I would work on the above but clearnace fee will be about £13 and you probably won't get chatged duty (buy might) as a general rule of thumb add 20% to value.


Customs could also charge you VAT on all in price including P+P but rarely do.

How do i pay this? Do i pay the seller extra?
