Hi wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, have had some problems with work carried out on our home and have been advised by trading standards to let the company come and attempt to put the work right then we can have someone from construction standards review the work to ensure it has been completed to a satisfactory standard the problem is I have searched online and cannot seem to find anything regarding how to go about this can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

Maybe Trading Standards have a department known as Construction Standards - I have never heard of them before. It could be Building Control, but if the work you were having done required Bld Regs notification and you/your builder didn't notify you could open a real can of worms. You could check it out yourself and refer to the following documents:-
There are a number of standards to refer to roofing:-
Building Regulations - these are statutory
British Standards are a good source - these are related to roofs & roof coverings:-
BS 8217:1994 - Code of practice for built-up felt roofing (No longer current but cited in Building Regulations)
BS EN 12326-1:2004 - Slate and stone products for discontinuous roofing and cladding. Product specification
BS EN 1304:2005 - Clay roofing tiles for discontinuous laying. Products definitions and specifications
BS EN 490:2004 - Concrete roofing tiles and fittings for roof covering and wall cladding - Product specifications
BS 8000-4:1989 - Workmanship on building sites. Code of practice for waterproofing
BS 8217:2005 - Reinforced bitumen membranes for roofing - Code of practice
BS 8218:1998 - Code of practice for mastic asphalt roofing
BS 8747:2007 - Reinforced bitumen membranes (RBMs) for roofing - Guide to selection and specification
BS 5534:2003 - Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles)
BS 5534-1:1997 - Code of practice for slating and tiling (including shingles). Design (No longer current but cited in Building Regulations)
BS 6229:1982 - Code of practice for flat roofs with continuously supported coverings (No longer current but cited in Building Regulations)
BS 9250:2007 - Code of practice for design of airtightness of ceilings in pitched roofs
In addition to the above, any leadwork should be checked by consulting the Lead Sheet Association Handbook - this gives all the specifications and sizes for leadwork on roofs.
All the above can be obtained by your local library, although you may have to order them.
Alternatively, if the builder is being difficult, you could engage a Chartered Building Surveyor to inspect the works and put together a list of latent defects and forward this to your builder for him to sort out - and you withold the final payment until the works are completed to your satisfaction. This is the general method in practice.
Hope this helps.0
