What do people suffering from SAD do to alleviate their symptoms.
I feel loads better today cos the sun has been out.
I know there are lights available but I just wondered if you have tried anything that works.
Thanks

Have you actually been diagnosed with SAD or just suffering from the "winter blues"? If it has been diagnosed, many report benefits from using light boxes to fool the brain into thinking it's summer/lighter. They can be pretty costly but can work for SOME people. As a form of depression, general things such as exercise can also help. Basically it's a case of trying things and see what works for you. If you can do it without resorting to pharmaceutical measures (usually anti-depressants) then all the better. Some have got help from counselling and even cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). Look around as well for support groups and forums where you can get help from knowing that it's not just you.0

As sunlight allows us to produce Vitamin D, a lack of it can leave us with lower than ideal levels. I have found supplements do help with SAD and winter blues and a variety of other body issues. For example I have much improved circulation now so no longer get cold weather white finger. :j
Search this forum for more on Vitamin D.

Will talk to my Dr next week about it.
I have recently had a thyroid operation and Dr thinks I have depression and has prescribed anti depressants.
Some days I feel better than others but have noticed an improvement when the sun is shining.
I will read through your suggested links.
