I'll never leave the seller feedback until he has left it for me.
"prompt payer" isn't affected by how I answer the door to the postman. If the seller needs to see what I think of the goods before they decide what they need to leave for me as the buyer it means that they have their doubts the product is good enough.
Best think ebay ever did was getting rid of the tit for tat feedback.
  • ebay should be called W****RBAY...its full of idiots like the one you are describing..and the funny thing is it will be you and not this idiot that gets suspended for recieving the unjust neg

It's nothing to do with tit for tat feedback. The reason I wait until after they have left feedback is because of dodgy buyers on ebay buying stuff then moaning it is rubbish blah blah blah - It has never happened to me but I see it on this forum all the time. I state in my auction once you have recieved and are happy with the item please leave feedback and I will return the favour. If you are not happy for any reason whatsoever please contact me and I will try my best to resolve it. I would hate to leave + feedback for someone and then them try it on, or leave me an unneccesary negative.

If I have sold & sent an item to someone and have not received feedback I do usually send them a follow up e-mail asking them to leave feedback if they were pleased and then I return the favour.

I think this is how it happens more often than not on ebay in my experience as a seller and buyer.

So the only reason you leave feedback is if they leave a positive for you nothing to do with them being prompt payers etc and you say it's not tit for tat, jeez.

No it's because the transaction is not over until they have received and are happy with their item and the only way I know that is when they leave me feedback. I could leave them feedback straight away, then they could receive the item and moan about something that is untrue or e-mail me with a problem and not be happy whatever I do to resolve it or even try a scam on, saying about partial refunds etc.. All these things happen regularly on ebay. Then I would have left a false positive feedback saying "quick payer" when the truth would be "Scammer" or "Wasn't even pleased with full refund" etc etc..

Whats false about saying quick payer if they paid quickly ??? You can't leave negative feedback anymore for buyers anyway and surely you can follow up any negative comments with a feedback reply

I didn't say that saying they were a quick payer would be false, but giving a buyer a positive if they turned out to be a nightmare or a scammer would give a false impression to other ebayers thats all. I don't leave the feedback after for any dodgy reason. In fact I have had it when a buyer has e-mailed saying they were pleased with the item but they did not leave feedback via ebay and I left them feedback because they had let me know they had received it and everything was fine.

I don't really see why me leaving feedback after would be a problem for the buyers anyway. If they haven't left feedback for me they are probably not that bothered about receiving feedback anyway.

Check out the - "what would you do?" thread

You will see then why it's best to leave feedback after the buyer has! :D

I don't use a seller who states that they only leave tit-for tat feedback in the first place. If they state that I may expect problems, and that their feedback will depend on mine, it merely reinforces your declaration above that to you every buyer is a scammer, and that you won't trust anybody. It also answers the question of what I will expect if something is wrong.
If I receive an email from the buyer asking for feedback, I always email them back and ask if they were happy with the payment, and if so to leave me feedback first. None of them have.
My feed back applies purely to the service and goods I receive, to date it has all been good, but I do buy only from a listing I like. Having said that, I've probably only left feedback for 30%, so 70% of buyers would have had good feedback, but sadly their own reluctance to show any trust has sopped them receiving it.
When I have sold, I leave feedback when I have the money. They can leave honest feedback when they want to.

I would love to be able to trust all buyers - but i'm afraid you just can't.
