Hi.
Just to pass on my recent printer experience.
I bought a Canon Pixma MP 460 last xmas, £25 Argos ,reduced from £99, being a Canon fan I went again with them ( coz of cheapness) when old canon died (4 years, not bad). When Cartridges run out, I purchased compatables from Choice Stationary (£22). They lasted 6 weeks with hardly any use, and are being returned with terse note. I have since found out on the net that you must really use Canon cartridges to avoid this, I then re-inked the originals with a branded kit they lasted 3 day's, the printer nows tells me the ink has run out and it will not print at all, I checked them and there is plenty of ink still in them. What have I learned ? No more Canons even if they are cheap. I have had Epsons, in my experience their nozzles clog, what next ? Brother DCP 350 C. lets hope I get better usage.
So ends my latest printer saga, now off to wash/scrub ink off hands and on to bed.

Like you I bought the MP460. If you use compatibles or re-inked then the ink monitor will be inaccurate, however it will still continue to print properly, you just have to judge the remaining ink from your printsIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

I've given up with HP and Epsom. Have had better luck with Canon but still not great.
I'm now using a Brother colour laser and it's the bomb. It was only £80 quid (ish)."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I'm on 4 or 5 years so far with my epson r200, the only original inks its ever seen were the ones it was sold with, and I've used hundreds of compatable carts since.
maybe I'm just lucky? (I do keep the inkpad clean after it decided it needed a service and I had to reset it).
for b+w prints you really can't beat a laser, though mine (kyocera mita) died and I cba replacing itUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I have an old Canon 550i, not used very often yet I've never had problems. I bought an Epsom a few months ago. It's much faster than the Canon....very plastic and feels flimsy but again no problems printing.
Try speaking nicely to it, maybe?0 -

No your not just lucky, I'm on about the same & used choices think cartridges, my uncle is up to about 6 years with his epson & the think ones. I had a conon once reinked it acouple of times, was told you need to keep using them regular to stop the head drying & blocking.0 -
I have an 18 month canon ip4300 and have gone through a couple of sets of compatibles. I too get the ink has run out or is low message but all you need to do is ok the warning or press a button on the printer to resume(can't remember the exact procedure). It has not been any trouble for me at all.letsbehonest wrote: »Hi.

Not only canon. I hear this being said about Epsons more than any other brand. I am only an occasional user and my first printer was an epson which I ended up binning due to banding. It was replaced by a canon and so far it has been working fine even using cheap compatibles.I had a conon once reinked it acouple of times, was told you need to keep using them regular to stop the head drying & blocking.0 -
I have an Pixma 4000 and even with Compatibles it accurately states the ink level. Newer Canons have obviously crippled this useful function! One reason why I make old things last as long as possible.0

As the original poster, I now confess to hypocrisy I have just bought a Canon Pixma IP 1900 from ASDA £ 15 as a spare.
you cannot go wrong for £15."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
