have you missed me? also buying back car question

well since the day after i got made br my internet got cut off because of the being disconected from bt thing so had to wait for then to set up new account then once that was live then wait for sky to reconect bb. so been without the net for over 2 wks which i havent liked 1 bit.

well i had my OR interview very quick and straight forward just asked what i spent the credit cards on just told him general spending.
im not allowed to keep the car but can get a third party to put a bid in to buy it

so what amount should be bid as i only paid £300 the car on parkers says £400 but needs the gearbox looking at and maybe replacing as its a auto and clonks when it goes in 3rd gear.

also the exhust needs attaching as it rattles so may need a new one if its damaged

needs a new seal on the sunroof as sometimes it leaks

and a very good valet as the seats are cloth so feeding a 2 1/2 yr old why driving has made abit of a mess of the seats

so what shall be offered i was thinking £50 as anymore than that it aint woth it if the gearbox does need replacing

If there is that much wrong with the car, wouldn't you be better off asking a third party to help you buy a banger than taking on all those repairs?? Otherwise, yes, I would start as low as possible and have an upper limit you are prepared to offer :D

Yep, no more than £50 or bluff it and say " take it then !" Our OR tells me it costs him £ 250 to sell/ dispose of a car.

  • Hi Lisa and welcome back...

I was wondering how you were a day or two ago...... I thought things must be either very good or very bad for you not to post, and it was neither!!

I agree with Merry - isn't this car more trouble than it is worth, or does it just sound bad on paper? I suppose it could be a case of "better the devil....." but even so.

When you had your OR interview how did they take the general spending reply? I am a bit worried that I spent a fair bit on travelling back abroad to where I used to live - trying to sort things out.......

  • see thats what i thinking as i dont really have much luck with cars ive only been driving since oct 07 and this is my 3rd car. the first one the head gasket went the 2nd the clutch went and now this one is broke(im starting to think it may be the drivers fault:rolleyes: ) but this car is the lastest reg ive owned its an R reg and body work is like new and apart from the messy back seats it clean inside.

so trying to way up the cost of a new car or get this one fixed as its a good little run around

  • thanks for the replies yeah i was going to say up to £50 then say take it anyway.

startagain i had nearly 5k of cc debt he asked what i spent it on and because it was silly things like taking cash out and paying bills and shopping mostly i just said general spending and he just said ok

  • i think the car does sound worse on paper as it is a good little runner but obviously i kill cars. the exhust is probly more my fault aswell (bloody speed humps everywhere)

  • Might be worth posting on the motoring board to find out how much it would cost to get all of that repaired - then you have a better idea whether the car is worth keeping or not....

  • Reliability can be a real problem with older cars as you are finding out. It is especially hard when you don't have anyone that can have a tinker for you and repair things.
I don't really know what to advise except you haven't had the car very long - so you won't know if it is normally reliable. I would suggest that good bodywork/bad mechanics might mean it has spent a long time off the road - possibly due to having been broken down in the past.
Good bodywork/Good engine - worth their weight in gold.
    So/so bodywork/ Good engine - keep it
Good bodywork/ Bad engine - looks OK but doesn't go!
I know what I think ....... bye bye

Find a little runaround - do you have anyone to help you spot a good 'un?

    :hello: Hi Lisa, :hello:

noticed you were missing, was wondering if everything was ok with you. Glad it is all ok apart from the car issues obviously!

I second the £50 offer but I would also get an estimate on repairs and if it is going to cost too much, then let the OR have it.

Hope you and kids are all ok. :D

Hi, we had the same problem with a PC and not a car the OR said it was worth £500 and asked us to make an offer hadn't a clue, but the OR did say that they are not able to accept 50% less than the value so agreed on £250 2 payments of £125 due end of Jan and Feb this was agreed beginning of Dec perhaps you may need to do that but speak with OR they are very friendly and perhaps they can give you some guidence good luck :j
