upvc question

Had a patio door and a back door fitted. The installers have fitted this towards the outer edge of the building. This looks and works fine but i am now left with a cavity gap on the floor. (This was an extension so no previous doors were fitted.) Cavity closers were fitted around the openings but not across the floors.

Is this normal to install not over the cavity?
I have some cavity closers left, do i now fill the gap. This also has to have 50mm of screed over it at a later date.

You paid for someone to do this? surely they have not finished the job?

My excellent window fitters closed the bottom gap with a hardwood doorstep.

Get the installers back to finish the job - don't pay them until they have.

    What you saying???

Installers were only fitting the windows, this is not the issue. I now will be sourcing somebody to screed the floor. This has to be 50mm.

Question is: What do i do with the cavity gap????

Can you post a picture? I don't understand why you are screeding over the wall. Is this a new build or a cut-out? Is it DIY or do you have a contractor?

Its a double skinned wall with 70mm cavity, there is a lintel over the top which is cavity filled. The sides have cavity closers (this will be plasterboarded).

I am talking from left to right across the reveal of the door there is a cavity gap in the floor of 70mm. There will be 50mm of screed to go down on the floor upto the new doors.
  • Fill it with the same type of cavity closer, you will need to try to squeeze one lip under the door frame. Then cover this with screed. This usually needs to be min 65mm and possibly reinforced - see this document and search on 'threshold'
