Can't believe my luck

I was in a restaurant and loved the chairs they had, so asked the waiter where they came from in the hope i could get something similar. The waiter got his manager for me and the manager said that they were hand made in Italy (no chance of me getting any then).

He followed this up with 'but we have some spare' ended up with me buying 6 ex restuarant chairs for £10 each. Some touching up needed but they are beautiful chairs, now all i have to do is get them home on the train!

I can't wait to get them in my flat! :T

Just had to share, but you never know what you might get if you ask!

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I really can't wait, been trying to think of a relatively cheap way to get them home without hiring a van. The manager is happy to hang on to them for a while so thats not a problem. I don't drive and don't think all 6 chairs would fit in my parents car.

I can imagine peoples faces when i try to get on a packed commuter train with a dining room chair.

hello Shabby Angel...... big hugs..... :D:p

  • Well done, not often you get something that perfect for your home!

One suggestion - why don't you borrow one of those hand trucks you get to cart heavy things around (sometimes get them with luggage sets too) and strap them to that, bit of wood on the bottom to support the legs, and away you go! This of course assumes that they stack!

If you can't borrow one, get a cheap shopping trolly that has a detachable bag and do the same thing with that.

I've got all sorts of things home using this method. I don't drive either, so my best investment is a small hand pushed pallet truck (double the base size of any shopping trolly!), but I don't think you could use it on a train!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • good idea, although i would need something motorised as not being able to use the train would pose a major problem, i work in central london (round the corner from the restaurant) and live in Kent
  • Put an advert on here incase anyone is passing by in a transit or lorry and can help you like ANYONE WHO GOES TO CENTRAL LONDON most days then to KENT after LOL....then again prob not allowed on here to do that....but you never know....

6 chairs will fit easily in an estate car, it would be a lot cheaper to hire one, or a small white van for the day.
Good luck with your mission ;)
