    just so you know!
D&A lenses are notoriously overpriced (I used to work in their call centre)
Same lenses are cheaper from other opticians.
But its a good offer for the goodybag.

Probably wouldn't actually get the lenses from them after the assessment. I just want the prescription and free trial.:D

They (most times) still ask for your bank details and set up the account for you, you then either have to go to the store to cancel before the free trial is over or call the contact centre (based in Glasgow! Very friendly bunch! :P ) to cancel.

Though my mum went for a free lens trial with them, and was given the lenses to wear, had to come back 30 mins later. Take the lenses back out and was then told that they (D&A) would hold onto the lenses until her next app 2 weeks later.....
  • Just read T&C's.
Offer is open to all 16-24 year old girls booking a free Contact Lens assessment and trial at any Dollond & Aitchison opticians before 30.12.08
I hadn't realised there was an age restriction.
Looks like I won't be going for it now. :(

Yes I saw this too, perhaps you're right, however, when I read the terms again, it is maybe for the free goodies bag rather than the lens trial/free eye test. I've been contemplating a lens test for a while now, so I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask for details. My wife asked about this a few weeks ago for me in my local town, and the assistant stated it's free if you decide to purchase their lenses!

Secondly, when you are taken to the appointment booking page after your receive your voucher, not only does it give you the dropdown option of selecting 'MR' for your name, when entering your DOB the form didn't complain about my age, so yes, it's not clear as yet who the offer is open to.
 Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

    WARNING

I did this last year, D&A refused to give me a code for the free goody bag unless I signed up via direct debit.

They also broke my designer glasses whilst handling and refused to pay damages, I had to report this to the OCCS as they still charged me £170 for the service.

I complained numerous times and all complaints were ignored.

I did not receive the goody bag either. Neither did my friends who signed up at the same time, or anyone else from MSE or HDUK who applied for this offer last year. They took over £300 via direct debit and I never received any contact lenses, I managed to get these fees reversed eventually but only because the OCCS threatened to take them to court.

It's a load of crap. Search "Dollond & Aitchison" or "D&A" in the 'Warnings & Rip-Offs' board and you will see all of the complaints regarding this 'offer'.

  • ^^I asked for an appointment through their on-line booking facility, so I should get a call back tomorrow. I'll ask them then.
