Why do I Bother trying to help buyers at xmas ?

I have sold quite a few bottles of perfume on Ebay this christmas. One buyer bought a bottle that I had run out of and as its xmas I didnt want her to wait an extra day while I restocked. So I sent her a gift set instead with a double sized bottle and body lotion. A order worth double what she had paid.

I recieved a message today , " Thanks for my order. but the box is slightly damaged. did you send it out like that?, Its a christmas present afterall so what are you going to do about it?"

I really wish I hadnt bothered, I am taking a deep breathe before I reply. I will tell her to return the order to me so I claim for the damage from royal mail and she can have her order replaced with the small bottle of perfume she ordered without any extra gifts.

Merry xmas everyone.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A

Quite shocking really. Amazing amount of effort you have to go through to please some ebayers. I think you really did a extra motorways length there. Not sure the present receiver noticed a small dent on the package.

It was a lovely thought, but most people don't want to give damaged goods as a present !
  • Let someone go the other day and then the lights change and I get stuck at the lights while the person I let go got through. Moral of the story - life doesn't always reward those who try to help others out :(
    :D
  • I think that was lovely what you did and if I had recieved the gift set and thought the box looked damaged then would have just repackaged it myself with some pretty tissue and ribbon.

Some people are so ungrateful.... Ive stopped letting people out when I`m driving now as most people have no manners honestly it makes me want to get out and hit their car with a big stick  One woman even pulled an eggy face when I let her go.... stupid hound!

I could not have packed it any better it was a box wrapped in bubble wrap packed inside another box and marked fragile. How much better could it have been ?

I didnt send the buyer damaged goods , why would I do that when I had gone out of my way to help the buyer who had also incidently purchased after the last posting date for xmas claiming that her it was all she could afford as an xmas present for her daughter who would be so disappointed if it didnt arrive. I also gave her special delivery at my own personal expense.

Has taught me a valuable lesson though, it will never happen again.

I think what you did was lovely and I would be totally overwhelmed if a seller did that for me.. I would just have put it in a gift bag with tissue/ribbon etc..
I agree, ask her to send it back and send her just the small bottle - then see her complain!

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.
