Not for BBC channels, with the exception of BBC World Service in some parts of Germany and France:

The internet is the best way to listen to UK radio channels abroad.

Even if DAB is avail in France, there would be no BBC signal in France. If OP's friend has the possibility of a Satellite dish then a second hand Sky box would pick up all BBC channels in good quality.

The BBC restricts what can be heard outside of the UK via the Internet - BBC Radio 1 to 5 are def avail except for much of live sport. If the visitor likes DAB, then an Internet radio might be a good option in France as it still looks like a normal radio.

Forgetting about the English channels for a moment, it's obvious the technology will work just as well but does France have DAB stations to listen to?

I dont know but ive looked on the internet and ive found that the french broadcasters have chosen to not go with DAB or DAB+ but have decided to go with DMB, it does have a date of last year mind so the french could have changed they're minds, heres a link,

Resurrection of earlier topic on DAB Radio in France, please -
    A. should soon have landline and Internet. Current tv reception is not great, despite satellite dish(in valley).

Could you please explain the Internet radio bit - will A be able to hear R5 and BBC7 in particular?

Thankyou in advance for any how-to's:D .

I know folks in Languedoc that have excellent Satellite reception of all BBC channels on a 60cm dish, so you could maybe check the setup as the sound quality and reliability ought to be better than a Real Audio stream. You can feed the Scart or Audio output from a sat box to a cheapy FM radio sender to convenience.

    Thankyou both.
Now,bearing in mind Martin's 'no such thing as a stupid ?', I easily[again]prove him wrong.
When you use the word 'channels', are you saying A. can/will receive ALL BBC radio? including DAB7 i.e. you don't just mean tv channels?
What is a radio sender please? Will fm work for what I usually hear as longwave or mw stations[if DAB's not on} i.e. the other R4?
BBC tv is not installed - is this necessary before any of this can work?
    What is Real Audio stream?

    Many thanks once more.

I have neither and use the radio all the time. I just go to the radio2 homepage and click 'listen live' and it opens in a browser window and plays - there's no external program used. Perhaps cos I use firefox?
