in Water bills
My son is in a shared student house 4 sharing. The water is on a meter and at present the bill for the last 6 months is about £1000 YES £1000.
Yorkshire water have frozen the bill up to now, they have changed the meter and informed the landlord ,he says there is no leak on his house
Yorkshire water say they have done everything they can and in January
the bill will have to be paid. The connection is ok they are not paying for
others peoples water but we cannot find a reason for the extreme usage.
The boys are just normal students they keep clean themselves but washing
clothes and pots is a weekly rather than daily activity.
If anyone can shed any light on our dilemma we would really appreciate it.

Given you are certain that there isn't a leak, paying for another property's water, the most likely reason is the wrong initial meter readings. Either paying for previous tenants or this is a 'catch-up' bill.
Leaking toilet - water running into the pan?
Have they checked the consumption over a couple of days?0 -
Did the water company change the meter because it was faulty?
Take a new reading from the meter and call the water company to request an off cycle bill up to the new meter reading.
This will give the water company the ADC (average daily consumption) for the property at the moment.
i,e ADC on this meter is 0.459 liters but on old meter it was 1.125 liters
They will then be able to see if there was a problem with the last meter and re bill them back over the period of the last bill.
They can also use the ADC to reassess the opening meter reading if it was estimated.
I would also do a flow test on the meter to confirm there is no leak.Helping people lower there water usage and water bills

There may have been a leak in the past and the landlord could have had it fixed ?0
