Provident?

Hi - me again with yet another question,
Has anyone ever gone BR owing anything on a Provident doorstep loan?
I owe about £500 to them paying £15 a week (gulp) and have been told that ALL my non-secured debts have to go into the big BR pool.
I am dreading the flak I am going to get from the collector when I tell her I am not paying. She is quite fiery and forceful to say the least. I also live in a town where everyone knows everyone and I imagine my plight might become common knowledge because of her.
I also feel guilty over a couple of purchases recently from my catalogue. It is strange to think that only 10 days ago I would never have thought of filing for BR and would have persevered trying to make enough money to pay for the items.
Any advice anyone?

I went bankrupt in august and despite telling them I am bankrupt I still continue to get letters saying I am so many weeks behind, (even though they are aware), But I don't get the doorstep collector anymore- so someone knows.
But all you can do is say your bankrupt and that you can no longer pay, give them your number and OR address, say thank you for calling and close the door.0 -
Thanks for your replies - you are both right but I am still dreading it!!

be prepared
have copies of the BO for each creditor, and have a letter about harrassement prepared
if they ignore those the ne prepared to see a solicitorNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
I would inform the Provident office instead of the doorstep collector. Its really none of her business and like you say you don't want her spreading it all around that you are BR.

You do not have to tell them you are going BR. Just say that you cannot pay for the forseeable future and that you do not want her to come back and that you are communicating directly with Provident's head office about it as it is a very personal matter. Then if she will not take the hint and go away, then shut the door. I am sure she has been told worse than that before.
All the best, I hope it's ok. ((((hugs))))BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0
