Don't Like Haircut

I went to get my hair cut last night by my usual stylist, who usually does a really good job. Yesterday however, the whole experience was a bit disappointing. I had a long wait as she was still cutting someone else's hair, and she had only just started mine when her next client arrived. Basically the whole thing felt very rushed - I was surprised when she started to blow dry my hair as I thought, wow, she's finished cutting already.
Anyway, when she had finished I did think hmm, I really wanted more off the length, but I didn't say anything, as I thought it might be ok, and I felt I was being rushed. I was charged £45, which I am normally happy to pay as I like my stylist, but this time I felt slightly ripped off by the whole experience.
Anyway today, now I've had chance to play with my hair a bit, I really don't like the shape of the cut, but I think all it needs is an inch or so taken off the overall length to balance it out.
The thing is, I don't know what to say if I ring the salon. I don't want to complain as such, as my stylist has always been very good up to now, and everyone has off days, and of course they are very busy in the run up to Xmas. I'm also not sure if it's really my own fault for not saying at the time that I thought it needed more off the length.
In this situation, would you expect them to sort it out for free, or as it's maybe my fault for not speaking up at the time, would they be justified in charging me for it?

If I were in your shoes, I'd go down to the salon and have a word with them. They might be willing to do something for you as you are a regular.
As to cost, I wouldn't think it fair to pay full price but they might ask for a much smaller amount to cover their time.0 -
I'd probably go in, rather thean phoning, I think it could come accross better face to face. As you say, you like the way she does your hair usually, so I would asume that's why you want to go back there for them to sort it out, rather than go elsewhere.
I've done this before, when I wasn't completely happy, and there was never any suggestion that I should pay again, so you might not even have to have that conversation. You weren't certain you were unhappy until you got home, so I'd explain it like that! X0 -
Thanks, I think I will follow the advice and call in and see what they say.
It's funny, normally if I had spent £45 on something and felt it wasn't up to scratch, I'd have no hesitation in going to the shop and asking them to put it right. I think when it's something like this, it seems more difficult because it feels like I would be criticising an individual person, rather than an organisation.0 -
I expect my hairdresser to ask if I've had enough taken off - even though she checks before she starts that she's doing exactly the same as last time. On Thursday I had mine done by someone else as 'my' stylist had gone to Spain without noting my appointment (!) and I was 'slotted in', but I was still asked if it was OK, and if I wanted more off the fringe, and there was no problem taking more off the fringe even though the next customer was waiting.
So if yours didn't check at the time, I'd say you were definitely on stronger ground for getting a bit more off for nowt. Be nice, be polite, say you realise she was rushed but if she could possibly sort it out you'd be grateful.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
My hairdressers is a sit and wait affair - no appointments. I have been back twice which soiunds dreadful but ive been going there about 5 years. Once because i wasn't happy how the one side "hung" after i'd done it myself. Once because i thought the one side was abit longer than the other. Both times, the manager had a go at it and sorted the problem, and i was not charged at all. No drama, or argument at all. Ijust went in and asked politely."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

I had similar experience in Toni and Guy a while back. Called up the next day and went back to have hair restyled. No charge.0

Hi, If the cut is technically ok, you may have trouble getting it redone for nothing. My hairdresser says she only does that if it needs correcting. If you just wanted it a bit shorter, it may be something you should say during your appointment - but I suppose it depends on the individual hairdresser.
I had a hairdresser for years who really sorted me out with a nice cut. But last couple of times she's made me look a bit frumpy. I'm a bit of a coward and just decided to find someone else to do it. My sympathy goes out to you, I am miserable if my hair's not right.:(0
