What are my rights re fraudulent use of a Paypal account?

Hi all, hope someone can help.

I recently sold something on ebay, received payment via Paypal and sent the item off. A little while later the payment was reversed. After some time and various emails between myself and Paypal, they have now come back and said that after investigation it turns out the Paypal account was used fraudulently and therefore I have lost my money.

Looking at the buyer's Paypal account, there was quite a lot of activity which stopped in August. It then started up again in October, so I assume someone hacked into a genuine Paypal account in October, changed the address and then bought a few items.

I'm a bit put out that it's me that loses out, when this is not my fault. Surely Paypal has a responsibility to ensure that accounts are secure, and if something goes wrong it shouldn't be the seller who loses out?

It's only £11.07, but if it was a credit card that had been used fraudulently, the bank would honour the payment and the seller would be paid, so how is this different? Does anyone know my rights in this situation?

Sorry, I meant looking at their eBay account. So whose responsibility is it? Ebay's or Paypal's? Or are they right that it's my problem?

You'd need to find out if you qualified for seller protection, and if you can track the item to its destination.
